The modern heir to the tradition, Hilden was founded in 1981 in the cobbled courtyard of a Victorian estate near Lisburn, County Antrim, on the banks of the Lagan. It began small, at a human scale, against the grain of an industry consolidating elsewhere.
Often called Ireland's oldest independent craft brewery, Hilden reconnected a centuries-old craft with a new generation of makers, and showed that the country's brewing story was still being written.
